Supporting Pet Families: Our Mission at Dog’s House, Inc

At the beginning of 2024 we started Dog’s House, Inc, a non-profit organization. The mission of Dog’s House, Inc is to place and maintain little free pet food pantries in Hamilton County, Indiana and surrounding areas for pet families struggling to provide food for their cats and dogs.

How it began

When we became parents to 3 fluffy toddlers, our home quickly became the DOG’S HOUSE.  We often say, it’s their house and we are just living in it – and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

It is because of the love and joy our fur babies bring to us, that we decided we wanted to start a service project that could help other pet families when they are in need.  It has been through my pet service business that I have become more aware of how overcrowded our shelters are, and how overwhelmed rescues are.  While there are certainly many factors that contribute to pets being surrendered, with the rise in inflation, surrenders due to financial constraints are on the rise. Through Dog’s House, Inc our mission begins with making free pet food and other supplies more accessible to food insecure pet families through little free pet food pantries being placed throughout Hamilton County. We believe the pantries will not only help relieve some of the financial stress and worry about feeding fur babies, but also to help prevent pets possibly being fed human food that isn’t safe or healthy for their long term health, and to keep pets with their families. Our ultimate hope being that maybe-just maybe, during a difficult time, a family can avoid making a difficult – even rash decision to surrender a pet if they know they have a means to provide meals and have access to other assistance.

Our Dream

Our dream is to grow and reach as many families in Hamilton County as possible, beginning with our area of residence, Cicero, IN .  Our pantries will be stocked with wet & dry food for both cats and dogs, and other miscellaneous supplies. Each pantry will have information about other free and low cost services for pets.  When we dream bigger, we envision being able to expand services to pet families with a fund for veterinary needs, and create educational material for children to help them learn about responsibilities of having a pet – even the not so fun parts.

Pantry Locations

We have started close to home for our first pantry placements: Inside the foyer at Hamilton North Public Library, 209 W Brinton St, Cicero, IN Outside of the dog park located in the Cicero Community Park next to the Hamilton North Public Library
